We all know that taking a leisurely walk is good for our health—benefiting both our physical and emotional well-being. Engaging in Creative Art can have a similar effect, especially when integrated into daily life. At WNDR Studios in Brisbane, we focus on offering activities that promote holistic health, and expressive arts play a central role in this approach.

But what exactly are "expressive arts"? Simply put, it's a way to categorise purposeful, creative activity. Unlike the structured routines of a gym contract or the daily walk some people avoid, expressive arts are enjoyable and flexible, making them a highly accessible form of self-care. Activities like Mindful Art allow individuals to engage in something they genuinely enjoy, fostering positive emotional health.

Expressive arts have been around for centuries, but only recently are they being recognized for their immense health benefits. From creative art workshops to mindfulness practices, people of all ages are discovering that these activities offer a powerful alternative to more traditional wellness routines.

Scientific research supports the growing popularity of expressive arts as a mental health practice. A study published in the Journal of Positive Psychology found that engaging in creative activities, such as visual art and movement, significantly improves emotional well-being and reduces stress . Another review in the American Journal of Public Health concluded that art-based interventions have a positive impact on mental and physical health by promoting self-expression, emotional regulation, and social connections.

In particular, Mindful Art—a combination of mindfulness practices and creative expression—has been shown to enhance emotional regulation and decrease symptoms of anxiety and depression support emotional well-being through creativity. Join out two free community workshops for QLD Mental Health Week celebrating the Health Benefits of the the Creative Arts.
